The College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences at the University of Houston-Victoria is accepting applications for the position of Lecturer in Communication.

Required qualifications: Masters degree in Communication or related field; experience teaching public speaking; demonstrated excellence in teaching.

Preferred qualifications: PhD in Communication or related field (ABD also acceptable); ability to work in multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary setting; experience teaching business and professional speech communication courses.

Position summary: Teach undergraduate Speech courses with potential opportunity to teach some upper division courses in the Communication program.

The appointment is a nine month, renewable position with potential opportunities for summer teaching at attractive salaries. The assigned teaching load in a fall and spring semester is four courses. The successful candidate will begin employment in Fall 2023.

UHV: The University of Houston-Victoria is a Hispanic-serving institution, located in the Coastal Bend region of southeast Texas. The main campus is in Victoria, TX, approximately 2 hours from Houston, Austin, Corpus Christi and San Antonio. It also offers a satellite campus in the greater Houston area. The University of Houston-Victoria enrolls approximately 4,000 students.

Victoria, TX: Victoria, Texas, a historic city located in the heart of the Golden Crescent of South Texas, is perfectly situated for anyone who enjoys outdoor activities. Victoria's warm climate keeps parks and lakes alive with activity most of the year. Riverside Park's 565 acres feature a rose garden, fishing on the Guadalupe River, disc golf, and paddling the Victoria Paddling Trail. Lone Tree Creek Park features a 2,400-square-foot splash park for children. New lighted and paved trails offer opportunities for walking, running, biking and rollerblading. The Victoria Youth Sports Complex houses a basketball pavilion, tennis courts, five softball fields and seven baseball fields, as well as a 15,000-square-foot skate park. Nearby Goliad State Park, Lake Texana Park and Campground, and Coleto Creek Park offer a variety of beautiful scenery and outdoor activities. Goliad State Park boasts a replica and historic mission ruins. Victoria's golf courses include Riverside Golf Course, The Club at Colony Creek and Victoria Country Club. Victorians also enjoy a wide variety of cultural activities including world class symphony, museums, theater, ballet, opera, and touring Broadway productions as well as major sporting events and a variety of restaurants and shopping.

Sunnyvale High School is hiring a Debate Coach for the 2023-2024 school year. The program was started in 2021, and our debaters have advanced to UIL State in Congress, CX, and LD Debate in the past year. The current full-time position involves a few sections of English, but subject assignment could change for the right candidate.

Primary Purpose: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in debate and English (or other academic subject area) to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in debate. Contribute to the education program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in UIL academics.

This is a full-time position which includes classroom teaching in Speech and Debate and in additional areas of interest/expertise. Speech and Debate related duties include operating and managing Speech and Debate expenditures; organizing and planning trips to Speech and Debate competitions; coach, teach and advise student participants both formally in class and informally before, during or after school; chaperoning competitors on overnight trips; judging debate and speech rounds at tournaments; advising students during competition; and driving school vehicles to and from events.

The University of Mary Hardin Baylor's College of Humanities and Sciences seeks qualified faculty for its Communication and Media Studies Department, beginning in late July of 2023, with initial appointment at the rank of Instructor (non-tenure track). UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society.

The Communication and Media Studies Department offers three undergraduate degree programs that include Speech Communication, Mass Communication, and Film Studies.

UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of 22,000 in the heart of central Texas. Nearby cities are Temple (7 miles), Waco (42 miles), Austin (60 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles). Specific Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate courses in Public Speaking. Instructor teaching load is typically 15 hours each semester, yet the successful candidate will receive a course release each semester in order to coach Speech Cru, the award-winning competitive speech team at UMHB.
